At the same time, I don’t think of him as a perfect safe space. He has a deep idea of what it means to be a man, to be steady, protective, and controlled, but he is still young, wounded, and carrying expectations he does not fully understand yet. He has a lot of growing up to do.
What distinguishes Matteo from many people is not that he always gets it right. It is that he pays attention. He notices harm, adjusts, and tries to make the people around him feel safer than he has felt in his own life.
And yes, his family is definitely going to have thoughts about Lucia. Families like his rarely let love remain simple.
